Anna Marie Wytko, whose artistry has been described by distinguished Paris composer-pianist Roger Boutry as "brilliant - great sensitivity - exceptional color and vivid contrasts," is Assistant Professor of Music at Kansas State University where she teaches saxophone, chamber music, and music theory. A Yamaha Performing Artist-Clinician, Dr. Wytko has performed throughout the United States, Europe, Canada and Mexico. She has presented guest artist concerto performances with orchestra throughout England and Scotland, and has performed as guest soloist with the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony of the West Valley (AZ), the Tempe Symphony Orchestra, the American Band College Band (OR), the Encore Wind Ensemble (MN), the North Suburban Concert Band (MN), the Mesa State College Wind Ensemble (CO), the Kansas State University Orchestra, and the Kansas State University Wind Ensemble and Concert Band. Dr. Wytko has appeared as featured guest artist clinician for the Iowa Bandmasters Association and has performed as guest soloist at the Kansas Music Educators Association in Wichita, KS. She has served as orchestral saxophonist with the Minnesota Orchestra, performing under such conductors as Osmo Vanska, and with the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, the Orquesta Sinfónica UANL in Monterrey, Mexico, under French conductor Olivier Grangean, and with the Musicfest Festival Orchestra (AZ). Dr. Wytko has presented concerts-master classes at such institutions as, among others, the University of North Texas, the University of Georgia, Baylor University, the University of Nebraska (Kearney), the University of Minnesota, Arizona State University, Drake University, Chapman Conservatory of Music, Valparaiso University, VanderCook College of Music, and as a featured guest at the IV Miedzynarodowy Festiwal Saksofonowy in Poland. Her first solo CD, titled "When night came...," was released in October 2011. As guest recording artist, she recorded Paul Hindemith's Konzertstück with saxophonist Eugene Rousseau for his chamber music CD released in January 2011.
Dr. Wytko performed John Mackey's Concerto for Soprano Saxophone and Wind Ensemble, a solo recital, and presented several master classes as featured guest artist in residence for the "Best of the West Music Festival" at Mesa State College in Colorado (November 2010). As guest soloist with the Kansas State University Symphony Orchestra, she presented the world premiere performance of Craig Weston's Elegy and Dance (solo saxophone and orchestra), a work dedicated to Anna Marie. Dr. Wytko performed Karel Husa's Concerto and Roger Boutry's Eclats d'Azur with the Kansas State University Wind Ensemble. She presented a guest artist performance of Roger Boutry's Divertimento in Ted Mann Concert Hall at the Ninth Annual International Saxophone Master Class in Minneapolis, MN. As one of only three saxophonists invited to perform at an international event honoring composer Libby Larsen, Anna Marie presented this composer's Bid Call for Alto Saxophone and Cello during 2008-09. Dr. Wytko is collaborating with Libby Larsen in the creation of a new work for saxophone. She is a founding member of the chamber ensemble Ascendo3 and alto saxophonist with the highly praised Joseph Wytko Saxophone Quartet. Dr. Wytko serves as a member of the faculty for the Shell Lake Arts Center in Wisconsin where she has presented guest artist recitals.
Anna Marie is a past first place winner of the Yamaha Young Performing Artist Competition and the Symphony of the West Valley 25th Annual Jennings Butterfield Young Artist Competition. Dr. Wytko has performed at North American Saxophone Alliance and World Saxophone Congress events, and at the Congreso Internacional de Clarinete y Saxophón (Acapulco, Mexico). In April of 2004, she presented the world premiere performance of Greg A Steinke's Expressions II - On the Paintings of Wassily Kandinsky (2 saxophones, 2 percussion, piano), a work written for and dedicated to Anna Marie. Dr. Wytko is a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Minnesota, where she also earned her MM and DMA degrees. A student of Eugene Rousseau and recipient of the prestigious Berneking Fellowship, she served as Saxophone Instructor (elective studio instruction) at the University of Minnesota.
